Once upon a time in a far away land, there was a little girl who believed in rainbows. Everyone told her rainbows didn't exist - they were as real as unicorns or dinosaurs. No one had claimed to have seen a rainbow in over a hundred years. But the girl persisted in believing anyway. And every time it rained, she would go up on the hill to watch in hopes of spotting a rainbow.

One day, the little girl who believed in rainbows met a little boy who believed in demons.

"Rainbows exist," said the little girl.

"Yes," said the little boy, "and demons eat them."

"Yes," the little girl agreed, for that was the sad part of it.

And the little boy went away satisfied that his superior knowledge had been recognized, and the little girl went away happy that they had agreed.

"Rainbows are wonderful," the little girl said to the little boy when she saw him next.

"They are wonderful," he agreed, for he knew they were good food for demons.

And they sat on the hill and watched.

One day, after the rain had come and gone, a brilliant rainbow appeared. The girl gasped and clapped her hands with joy for it was so bright and wonderful. And the boy grinned happily for such a large rainbow was sure to attract many demons.

And sure enough, the demons came and began to eat the rainbow. And the girl watched with bright, teary eyes as she sealed the slowly-vanishing beauty into her memory. And the boy watched, eyes bright with excitement as the demons jostled greedily for their share of gobbling.

Finally, the last shred of rainbow had been consumed into darkness.

"It was beautiful," the girl said.

"It was incredible," said the boy.

And they smiled at one another and walked down the hill hand in hand.
